Does baseball get any better than this?

“Hello again, everybody. It’s a bee-yooo-tiful day for baseball.” I know, I know … It’s March. It’s still basketball season. The NBA is just halfway through its season, and March Madness is about to begin. No doubt, you’re still consumed with “Linsanity,” you still get pumped when Blake Griffin slams a dunk so powerfully that it makes Joseph Stalin stir fearfully in his grave, and you still hop uncontrollably off the couch when Anthony Davis blocks his 27th shot of the game, regardless of whether or not you dump your entire bag of Grippo’s all over the freshly vacuumed carpet.

NBA 2012: Lockout, Los Angeles, Lebron, and Lin

Despite the early season lockout, the NBA made it to February and the All-Star break. Fans across the country have watched game after game and followed the various story lines of the league. Soccer: the beautiful game

A soccer skeptic’s introduction to the world of international soccer, and realization that the “beautiful game” might actually be beautiful

Last fall I studied abroad in Strasbourg, France. While there, several other Centre College students and I had the opportunity to travel to Paris and see the U.S. National soccer team play the French National team. I was excited! Not, however, because I was going to a soccer game. I was excited because I was going to paint my body blue and shout patriotic chants. I had always considered the “beautiful game” to be somewhat less than beautiful.

Kickin’ for the cup

With the end of the Major League Soccer (MLS) regular season upon us and the playoffs to come, soccer fans across the country are looking back on a great season. After a grueling 37 games, we have been left with surprises and disappointments, some of which stand above the rest. In my opinion, here are the biggest topics of the year.

October’s very own

The 2011 Major League Baseball (MLB) season ended in exciting fashion, capping a historic St. Louis Cardinals and Tampa Bay Rays run into postseason play. Going into the final day of the regular season, both the National League (NL) and American League (AL) Wild Card Races were undecided, with the leaders of each league tied for the top spot

The NFL begins its 93rd regular season

As the ball was kicked off on Sept. 8, football fans across America could breathe a sigh of relief. When the New Orleans Saints and Green Bay Packers began tearing up the turf, there was one important realization: the NFL is finally back. No longer do fans have to listen to ESPN analysts talk about whether the lockout will be over in time for the season.

NFL Pre-Playoff Predictions

It has been a long season, with many ups and downs in the NFL, but the Playoffs are finally here. Since the beginning of the fall season, we’ve seen Brett Favre retire, come back and retire again. We have watched the Dallas Cowboys cough up another season, and we’ve witnessed Michael Vick become one of the league’s most intriguing players.

SEC football: Pure dominance

In Aug. 2010, Pat Forde wrote an article for ESPN that asked the question, “Will the SEC’s BCS dominance continue?” With Auburn’s victory over Oregon on Jan. 10, I believe Pat Forde’s question can be answered.
